In the famous facilities of the All England Club in London, Martina Genís has debuted in her first junior Grand Slam. His first appearance in this type of tournament was at Wimbledon, thus fulfilling one of his great dreams.
Her debut, in the round of 64, could not be a victory, where she lost (3-6 and 2-6) against the British Ella McDonald, number 14 in the ranking in her category. But her participation in this Wimbledon Grand Slam is already a finishing touch to this season for the young tennis player from Tarragona.
Genís, who started the year in 500th place in the junior world ranking, has climbed to 47th place thanks to her spectacular results, the same ones that have taken her to the main draw of the famous London tournament. Before entering the tournament, Genís had won different individual tournaments such as the J200 Cap d’Ail and the J650 in Tarragona, as well as in pairs such as the J200 in Valencia or the runner-up position in the J200 in Salsomaggiore.
Doubles tournament
Martina Genís’ participation in the London tournament did not end in the individual draw. Together with Charo Esquiva, she participated in the doubles draw, and they started the tournament in the round of 32 with a clear victory (6-4 and 6-2) against the British couple formed by I. Haddad and H. Read. With this victory, they managed to advance to the round of 16, where they lost to Argentina’s L. Moyano and, for the second time, E. McDonald. A tight defeat, 6-4, 5-7 and 16-14 in the tiebreaker, finally put an end to Martina Genís’ participation in Wimbledon.
